Day 2 – Bike tour in Franciacorta – Wine tasting
Biking in Franciacorta and along Lake Iseo shores you will enjoy wonderful views of a unique landscape!
Through fields and vineyards we’ll bike to the Abbey of San Nicola in Rodengo Saiano, one of the most impressive monastic sites in Italy. Founded in the 11th century by Cluniac monks, it passed into the hands of the Olivetans in the mid-15th century until its suppression in the Napoleonic period (1797). The Abbey is built around three large cloisters (the oldest one is from the 15th century with decorated glazed tiles). In the refectory room we will also admire the works of the famous painter Romanino da Brescia.
And later in the afternoon, what’s better than a visit to a renowned Franciacorta Cellar, tasting the full range of Franciacorta wines to make the day perfect?
Day 3 – Montisola
In early morning we’ll pass by the Monastero di S. Pietro in Lamosa, in the Natural Reserve of Torbiere del Lago d’Iseo, where turf was dug and sold as a fuel to houses and factories. What a view on Franciacorta!
Afterwards, we’ll head for Iseo where we will board a motorboat to Montisola.
Montisola is the largest inhabited island on a lake in Europe. It is also the highlight of Lake Iseo which gives the lake a distinctive charm. Except for a very few authorized vehicles and buses, no cars or trucks can circulate on Montisola…adding charm and breathable air to its quiet. Travelers must use their feet or a bicycle to get around. If you like, we can walk up to the Shrine of Madonna della Ceriola at 600 meters above sea level. This place offers gorgeous views of the downward falling slopes of Montisola, of Lake Iseo and of the countryside on all sides of the lake.
Arrivederci for another tour on Lake Iseo with Borgo Lago Suites and VITOR
